This being a medium size cache, located in parkland in the suburb of San Remo.

It’s a nice walk along the water’s edge and then across a large open sports field to get to this cache, alternatively there is a shortcut if you park in the obvious place – but I do recommend the longer, more scenic route.

With the aid of the hint, we quickly spotted the cache and carried out the TeamWolfie caching rituals.

Thanks for another Monopoly hide – we’re really enjoying these.

We’ve managed to pick up quite a few of these now. This one is listed as a “micro” – but I’d personally call it a small cache because, despite the size of the container – there was room for a few small swaps – and of course, the Monopoly card itself.

Wolfie lands on Regent Street. Rent Owed.

This was a nice, handy, and relatively straightforward cache. There’s even a freeway exit for both north and southbound access very close by – so a great “park-and-grab” style geocache for anyone traveling between Sydney and Newcastle.

Thanks for the cache!

After our encounter with a young brown snake at Picadilly and abandoning the hunt for that cache, we headed off to the nearby Vine Street (GCYBTJ), another of the Monopoly series (orange colour square) by cphoenix.

By this time we were extra wary of snakes! When we approached GZ we found the likely spot for the cache to again be in a spot that looked like a great habitat for snakes and other nasties, so we approached with caution and made a lot of noise along the way, hitting the ground with our sticks in an effort to scare off any little surprises that might be waiting for us!

<img class="size-medium wp-image-455" title="img_0379" src="http://www.teamwolfie.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/img_0379-225x300.jpg" alt="Landed on Vine Street.
Within a few minutes we had located the Vine Street cache. No snakes this time… we swapped a couple of plastic “bugs” from our Christmas Bon Bons for a couple of Football card, and placed the cache back in its resting place.

From the main car park we walked over a kilometer to our next geocache hunt – Picadilly (GCYMJB), another of the cphoenix Monopoly series caches. Picadilly is a yellow square on the traditional English version of the game.

It was a lengthy but relatively flat walk out to this very isolated location. Along the way there was a sense of eeriness - being so isolated, quiet, the air heavy and muggy, and the sound of the bird life in this area was deafening at times.

On arrival at the lookout area we took in the scenery and made an effort to get a little closer to Ground Zero – which we found near a rocky area a little to the west of the lookout. The clue mentioning something about a cave had us climbing down the rocky outcrop in search of caves and openings.

We’d searched for about 10 minutes amongst the thick dry undergrowth, the day is hot – and I am always weary of snakes in these environments.

My vigilance paid off. Just as I was climbing around the rocks to check out possible hiding places for this cache I encountered what I believe to be a juvenile brown snake – only about 30cm in length. According to Wikipedia, “The Eastern Brown Snake is the second most venomous land snake in the world“, so I wasn’t really keen to stick around in case it’s parents were about.

TeamWolfie made an executive decision to leave the area immediately – abandoning the hunt for this cache!

Our third geocache find for the day at Kincumber Recreation Reserve, was also our 52nd find, and our 4th find in the Monopoly series of caches by cphoenix – this one being red game square Trafalgar Square (GCYBTP).

Just another 5 or so minutes flat walk further along from The Road Not Taken, this had us a little stumped at first. Sometimes hints should be interpreted carefully. “Beyond the lookout sign” does not necessarily mean behind the sign – so one should trust one’s GPSr here until one gets closer to GZ and then start looking in the obvious cacheable hidey holes.

Wolfie owes another $20 rent

We took a little paper Aussie Flag and left a swappable travel bug. This guy is called “Clockwork Orange” and he has traveled over 19000km from the UK, and still going strong. Unfortunately the little digital clock on the poor guy no longer works and the battery in it is missing. Hopefully someone will find him a new battery and get him working again.

Bye Bye Clockwork Orange

A great location for our 52nd find, and a perfect spot to drop off this cute little traveler. Good luck in your travels.

Whitehall (GCYBT5) is another in cphoenix‘s series of Monopoly-themed geocaches – each cache find representing a square on a standard Monopoly game board. Whitehall is one of the Purple squares on the English version of the game.

It’s located in the Kincumber Recreation Reserve – along with several other caches, so we decided to spend a morning there finding as many of these as we could. Turned out to be a great morning where TeamWolfie got some much needed exercise after two days of Christmas feasting.

The search for Whitehall takes you about 600m in a southerly direction from the main picnic areas at the Kincumber reserve, to a pleasant rocky outlook with sweeping views across the village of Kincumber below, and far beyond.

Wolfie lands on Whitehall. $10 Rent owed!

We found this cache fairly quickly – making it our official 50th cache find, and puts yet another of the Monopoly series under our belt! We left behind a Soldier and took a Sheeps Head (not a real one).

This was a great little small sized cache in a very pleasant location, with lots of unusual trees and great views. Thanks for giving us an excuse to come here. Another great find.
